Know more about Stem Cell Therapy

Stem Cells are special human cells, which have a unique ability to develop into specialized cell types in the body. They are cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in a laboratory or in the body, stem cells divide to form more cells called daughter cells. These daughter cells either become new Stem Cells (self-renewal) or become specialized cells (differentiation) with a more specific function, such as blood cells, brain cells, heart muscle cells or bone cells. No other cell in the body has the natural ability to generate or differentiate into new cell types. These cells have the tendency to differentiate their nature into specialized cells like brain cells, heart cells etc.

The basic function of Stem Cells work towards repairing and regeneration of damaged cells. Stem Cell Therapy uses this function to its advantage by administering the Stem Cells, directly into the damaged tissue in adequate concentrations to augment self-healing. Most scientists have agreed on the fact that the potential of research on stem cells is life–saving and it could certainly revolutionize the future of the study and treatment of disorders, degenerative diseases and fatal injuries.

All patients are not candidates for Stem Cell Therapy. Thus, a detailed clinical evaluation needs to be done by a specialist, before confirming and opting for the therapy.

The method to implant Stem Cells depend on the patient’s condition or disease. There are different ways to administer Stem Cells:

  • Intravenous administration
  • Administration through catheter with the help of angiography
  • Direct channelization to the target point
  • Administration through surgical operation.

Generally, Autologous Stem Cell Therapy has zero risks / long term side effects. However, it involves temporary anaesthetic risks/side effects such as short term discomfort like nausea and vomiting, infection and delayed wound healing. These possible side effects are disease and individual specific and may not necessarily happen to all patients.

Undifferentiated adult autologous stem cells are mutable and have the possibility to grow and multiply into countless number of cells as per requirement of the disease/patient. This remarkable property of Stem Cells can be exploited for treating a variety of diseases. These cells are isolated from the most potent sources of the patients own body, known as Adipose Tissue and Bone Marrow. Upon implanting these cells back into the body, they can rapidly multiply with great speed to promote networking of new blood vessels, to smooth obstructed blood flow, to help control over your mood swings, etc.
